The people are relaxed and friendly, the town is not overrun with stag parties and, because of the large student population, there is a lively nightlife.
Most pubs are open until 11pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30pm on Sunday; a smattering have late licenses until 2am on Friday and Saturday. Clubs usually close around 2am-3am at the weekend.
